Grammar Girl

There's nothing like a media startup podcast to help media entrepreneurs with their startup efforts.

Open Room Media is a podcast that has just launched, and while it's a new project, the creator is no newcomer to the world of podcasts. It's the professional project for Mignon Fogarty in her role as the Donald W. Reynolds Chair for Media Entrepreneurship in the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. She's more widely known for her successful Quick and Dirty Tips podcasts, and her own Grammar Girl brand.

Reno Public Radio likes to catch up with Reno author Mignon Fogarty, better known as Grammar Girl, to explore language and writing. With schools just getting back into session, Fogarty chats with KUNR's Michelle Bliss about things like where the word "syllabus" comes from and how kids these days misuse the word "versus."

Fogarty also provides behind-the-scenes details of the recent North American Scrabble Championship held in Reno.

For Beyond the Headlines, we like to catch up with Reno author Mignon Fogarty, better known as Grammar Girl, to explore language. This week, she talks to Reno Public Radio’s Michelle Bliss about tips for recent college grads trying to land freelance writing gigs. But first, they begin with a burning question that bugs Michelle every time nice weather arrives and folks start gathering around the grill. Let’s take a listen.

Reno author Mignon Fogarty, a.k.a. Grammar Girl, recently gave a talk for the city’s TEDx program held at the University of Nevada, Reno. It’s the local version of the national Ted Talk program, which shares inspiring discussions from leaders across the globe. Mignon’s topic was language, of course, but instead of focusing on the rules, she highlighted some of the rule-breakers. Reno Public Radio’s Michelle Bliss joined her to learn more.

The weather remains unseasonably warm and dry in Northern Nevada, but as harsh winter weather keeps slamming the East Coast,  we've been hearing terms like snowmageddon and snowpocalypse in the national news.

Every month, Reno Public Radio’s Michelle Bliss catches up with author Mignon Fogarty, better known as Grammar Girl, to talk about the intricacies and quirks of the English language. Today, with the holidays fast approaching, the two explore some grammatical gripes specific to the season.

We are debuting our new Grammar Girl segment with author Mignon Fogarty, the creator of the Quick and Dirty Tips Network. Once a month, Mignon will explore the many intricacies and quirks of the English language with Reno Public Radio's Michelle Bliss.

As the fall semester gets underway at the University of Nevada, Reno, the Reynolds School of Journalism has a new asset: Mignon Fogarty. Widely known as Grammar Girl and the founder of Quick and Dirty Tips podcasts, she's now the new Reynolds Chair for Media Entrepreneurship.
