Local Construction Jobs Getting Harder To Fill

Statewide, Nevada added 7,200 construction jobs last year, but finding skilled, local workers to fill those positions is becoming increasingly difficult. Our contributor Brook Bentley of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly reports.

The shortage of skilled construction labor is being compounded by a rebounding economy that's spurred new residential and commercial construction. There are also many senior-level employees moving closer to retirement age.

Rancho San Rafael Regional Park has a massive $1.2 million irrigation project that has turned a good portion of the park into a construction zone. Reno Youth Radio’s Veronica Garcia paid a visit to find out what is going on.

The state of Nevada has seen a nine percent increase in construction jobs over the last year. Reno Public Radio’s Noah Glick reports.

According to a new study from the Associated General Contractors of America, Nevada has added 5,700 construction jobs across the state since February 2015.

Bill Anderson is chief economist for the state, and he says this rise is a good sign for the overall state economy.
