Possible Ethics Complaint Against Assemblywoman With Ties to Saudi Arabia

Paul Boger

A Northern Nevada lawmaker says he may file an ethics complaint against a fellow legislator who was recently outed as a foreign agent for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Democratic Assemblywoman Shannon Bilbray-Axelrod of Las Vegas was registered as a lobbyist for the middle eastern country when she worked for the consulting firm Organized Karma. She has since officially resigned her position with the consulting firm.

However, Republican Assemblyman Jim Wheeler of Minden says her work for a foreign government is troubling and that the Assembly leadership should investigate whether any of the Assemblywoman's actions constitute wrongdoing.

"I don't like it as a veteran," says Wheeler. "I don't like it as an American. I don't like it as an Assemblyman, okay? I don't like it as a Nevadan. I think this is a situation that should concern everyone."

In a statement, Sarah Abel, a spokesperson for Assembly Democrats says Bilbray-Axelrod's situation is unfortunate and leadership will investigate if a complaint is filed."
