Some Republican politicians, including Congressman Joe Heck, are dropping their support for Donald Trump after old footage of Trump making lewd comments about women recently surfaced. Reno Public Radio’s Michelle Billman reports.
Heck was booed at a rally in Las Vegas when he announced that he will no longer be voting for Trump. Here's some of what Heck said in the CNN footage:
"I can no longer look past the pattern of behavior and comments that have been made by Donald Trump; therefore, I cannot in good conscience continue to support Donald Trump nor can I vote for Hillary Clinton."
Heck is running to replace Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. His opponent, Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto, says Heck's comments on Trump are too little, too late.
“Congressman Heck has been supportive of Donald Trump for nine months. He’s not shown any leadership. I think this is a desperate attempt for him to save his political career.”
The two are competing in a close race that could help determine which party controls the senate. A recent poll by the Las Vegas Review-Journal shows that the race is still a toss-up.
