State officials say they're seeing fraudulent unemployment claims using the personal information of some Nevada employees. Our contributor Bob Conrad of ThisisReno has more.
The state has notified employees that their personal information may have been breached. The data may include an employee's name, date of birth, and social security number.
Mae Worthey is a spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. She says they're seeing an increase in imposter claims using the personal information of state employees.
"We do have a fraud detection unit and we're always on the lookout for fraudulent activity and so there was a little bit more of that activity than normal."
The state says that its systems were not hacked or compromised. Worthey says that details of how personal information was fraudulently obtained is not something she can discuss because of an ongoing investigation.
