Carson City Opens First Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Oct 1, 2016

Carson City’s first medical marijuana dispensary is set to open this month. Our contributor Brook Bentley of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly has the story.

Carson City supervisor Karen Abowd and RISE General Manager Tyler Brennan cut the ribbon at the dispensary Thursday on E. Clearview. The dispensary will be operated by Green Thumb Industries, which is based in Chicago and has two other dispensaries in Illinois. Company officials say they chose to expand their operations to Nevada because they like the state's regulatory environment. They specifically mentioned the state's experience regulating casinos, which they say requires a high level of supervision to ensure markets operate in a safe manner.

The dispensary is called RISE and the company recently held a ribbon cutting and hosted tours.

The store includes a small waiting area that customers have to pass through before being allowed to enter a much larger secured retail area where all types of medical marijuana will be sold, including edibles, flowers and concentrates.

There are also 17 security cameras on-site.
