Reno Public Radio (KUNR-FM) in Reno, NV is seeking two experienced public radio reporters to add to our expanding news presence. Make an immediate impact in our community by providing compelling storytelling and NPR-style journalism across broadcast and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution and at least one year of radio news reporting or related broadcast journalism experience; a listenable, confident and polished public radio voice; work samples reflecting excellent broadcast and digital writing/editing; strong interviewing and audio production skills. Also helpful: Reputation as a hard-worker, a quick study, great to work with. Reno/Tahoe has recreation right out the back door, a thriving business climate and a vibrant food and arts scene. First, it's important to know that KUNR is a robust, but small, news organization, so our interns get a lot of hands-on training, mentoring, and the opportunity to make a real difference in our local coverage.

KUNR News Intern (unpaid)
Reno Public Radio is looking for news production interns to help generate local content for our daily newscasts. Hours will range from 10 to 20 per week depending on applicant availability. Applicants need access to a car for traveling to various events.
Desired Skills: Be familiar with the style and mission of NPR and KUNR programming. Be a strong writer with some broadcast experience in radio or TV. Be proficient with grammatical rules and AP style. Be able to learn quickly and meet tight deadlines. Be hungry for news content and aware of issues and stories important in Reno. Be familiar with audio editing software (like Adobe Audition) and broadcast/digital recording equipment.
Responsibilities: Gather sound at press events and conduct phone interviews for daily stories. Pull audio and write copy for news stories. Post news content on our website and social media. Assist local reporters with other duties that come up like transcribing interviews and doing background research. There may be an opportunity to research, pitch, and report original news stories, depending on skill level and time constraints.
KUNR Photography Intern (unpaid)
Reno Public Radio is looking for photography interns to help produce local content for our website and social media channels. This intern could also produce web posts, videos, and infographics. Hours will range from 10 to 20 per week depending on applicant availability. Applicants need access to a car for traveling to various events.
Desired Skills: Be familiar with the style and mission of NPR and KUNR programming. Be a strong writer with some media experience. Have proficiency with: photography and possibly videography/graphic design. Be proficient with grammatical rules and AP style. Be able to learn quickly and meet tight deadlines. Be familiar with photo editing software like Photoshop.
Responsibilities: Creating original content like photo galleries and special photo series for social media and generating interest in our organization through those channels. Posting local content on our website, Twitter, and Facebook. Creating original web content that can stand alone or that coincides with news stories (like a photo gallery or video for a particular story). Handling any other duties that come up as needed.
