The City of Reno is proceeding with a proposal to start developing dozens of acres of property in south Reno for a sports and recreation complex. Our reporter Bob Conrad of ThisisReno.com has the story.

Five city-owned parcels totaling more than 100 acres are proposed to be turned into a recreational complex that would include a golf course and baseball fields.

The city is looking for a company to propose designs for the fields.

Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada helps to organize an annual fair to bring together dozens of groups who provide housing, health and educational assistance.

Washoe County Sued Over Bill Draft Request

Washoe County is being sued by the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Governing Board over the county’s proposed legislation to gain more representation on that board. Our reporter Bob Conrad, of ThisisReno.com, has the story.

The planning board has 10 members -- four from the city of Reno, three from Sparks and three appointed by the county. The bill draft request to the legislature, approved by the commissioners, would change that composition.

Waste Management

The franchise agreement between the City of Reno and Waste Management continues to generate heated debate. Our reporter Bob Conrad of ThisisReno has the latest. 

According to a financial audit conducted by an outside firm, the company is in compliance with its agreement with the city.

But last week’s discussion quickly turned sour over a litany of issues about how that agreement has been executed since it was adopted in 2012.

A federal lands bill could mean Washoe County will acquire some public land. Our reporter Bob Conrad is finding that some who could be impacted by the proposed changes have got questions.

The legislation is called the “Economic Development and Conservation Act." A draft of the bill is not yet public, but Washoe County has held two open houses to gather questions and feedback.

County planning director Bill Whitney says the bill is 15 years in the making.

The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has approved three people to serve at the Nevada Legislature for an upcoming special session. Our reporter Bob Conrad has the story.

Commissioners named Jesse Haw and Julia Ratti for state senate, and Dominic Brunetti for state assembly.

The term of the appointments is just for the special session, which will be held next month. Lawmakers will consider approving a stadium in Las Vegas for the Raiders football team.
