The local firefighters union is suing the City of Reno in an effort to prevent dozens of layoffs. The cuts are scheduled to take effect next month. Meanwhile, the two parties are in negotiations over the union's contract, but that's also becoming tense.

The City of Reno has already passed its budget, but the dispute over laying off 33 firefighters is not going away anytime soon.

“The only way you can lay people off is if you don’t have any money, or you don’t have any work.”

Northern Nevada's congressman says he's okay with giving illegal immigrants legal status in certain situations. Reno Public Radio's Will Stone reports Republican U.S. Representative Mark Amodei held a town hall style meeting in Reno this week to hear from his constituents.
