The City of Reno is proceeding with a proposal to start developing dozens of acres of property in south Reno for a sports and recreation complex. Our reporter Bob Conrad of ThisisReno.com has the story.

Five city-owned parcels totaling more than 100 acres are proposed to be turned into a recreational complex that would include a golf course and baseball fields.

The city is looking for a company to propose designs for the fields.

Reno leaders are hoping a positive message will help move the city past some of the turmoil caused by the sexual harassment allegations against former city manager Andrew Clinger.

Mayor Hillary Schieve spoke to a crowd of about 500 people Thursday evening, during her annual State of the City address.

In the hour-long speech, Schieve touted the city's accomplishments including removing blight from downtown, increasing funding for helping the homeless. She also mentioned the city's growing law enforcement with the addition of 19 new officers.

The City of Reno has released two investigation reports on misconduct allegations against former City Manager Andrew Clinger, which were made by three female employees. Our News Director Michelle Billman reports that the documents don't show evidence of sexual harassment, but they do highlight an unprofessional work environment.

Waste Management

The franchise agreement between the City of Reno and Waste Management continues to generate heated debate. Our reporter Bob Conrad of ThisisReno has the latest. 

According to a financial audit conducted by an outside firm, the company is in compliance with its agreement with the city.

But last week’s discussion quickly turned sour over a litany of issues about how that agreement has been executed since it was adopted in 2012.

The City of Reno has removed 68 benches from downtown using money from its blight fund. Officials say the project is in response to complaints of panhandling.
