Burners Rejoice: Truckee to Get Its Own Maker Space

Truckee is about to get its own maker space, stocked with tools and materials to help locals get creative. 

 

Morgan Goodwin made bringing a maker space to Truckee a big part of his campaign for town council this year. It was a message that resonated with the community. 

“Through the town council campaign I met a lot of people who wanted to get involved,” Goodwin says. “We started having some meetings and creating a team of people who would be best positioned to make it happen.”

Electric Wagon Train At NMA This Saturday

With its proximity to the Black Rock Desert, Reno is a conduit for creative expression among artists who make their annual trek to the Burning Man festival. Now, a group of art lovers is trying to bring more of that Burner art back to the city. Reno Public Radio's Julia Ritchey has the story.

Artist Gary Gunderson attended his fourth Burning Man this year. He built an 18-foot metal sculpture made from recycled bicycle parts that can be played like a musical instrument.

Over the weekend, the Eldorado hosted its annual Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno where hundreds of locals and tourists alike got the chance to stomp grapes in order to make wine, sample all kinds of vino and pasta sauces, and enjoy live music. Nevada State Prison Gets Historic Designation

The Nevada State Prison in Carson City has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Reno Public Radio's Michelle Bliss has the details.

The Nevada state prison dates back to 1862 and housed inmates for 150 years before shuttering its doors a few years ago because of budget cuts. 

The Holland Project: Grounded For Life
