World Premiere From The University Symphony Orchestra

  Fans of super heroes and science fiction will descend on Reno this weekend for the Wizard World Comic Con. Several celebrities will also make appearances, including Adam West, better known as Batman. Reno Public Radio's Julia Ritchey called up the actor to talk about his long career.

Hollywood legend Adam West has been in the business for 60 years, with more than 180 acting credits to his name. Of course, he's probably best known for his role as Batman in the 1960s series alongside Burt Ward as Robin and Julie Newmar as Catwoman.

  Reno’s only all-ages music venue, The Holland Project, has just wrapped up a fundraising campaign to buy its building near Midtown. As Reno Public Radio’s Julia Ritchey reports, the money will ensure they can stay put in a part of town that’s experiencing growing pains.

Back before Midtown Reno was one of the trendiest neighborhoods in town, it was a collection of empty buildings looking for startups with a do-it-yourself attitude.

Art For Native American Heritage Month

The UNR Sheppard Contemporary gallery is presenting the work of Joe Allen, a traditional duck decoy artist and a member of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe and Emily Arthur, a printmaker from the Cherokee foothills of North Carolina.   The exhibit runs through Jan. 22.  

Friday the 13th at 2pm there is a public lecture by scholar Nancy Mithlo, Ph.D.   She works to bring American Indian artists to the attention of global audiences.  The lecture is free and will be at the Wells Fargo Auditorium in the Knowledge Center at UNR.

All over the U.S., all-black towns helped to shape the history of this country. Many African-Americans escaped to these towns after the Civil War to try to break free from racism. Now, some are disappearing.

A new documentary Struggle and Hope by Reno Filmmaker Kari Barber explores these relatively unknown towns and the people who still live in them. To learn more, Reno Public Radio's Anh Gray interviewed Barber on the film, which is currently in post-production.

NMA Offers Free Admission On Friday

In honor of Nevada Day, the Nevada Museum of Art will have free admission this Friday from 10am-6pm.  There will also be a panel of experts available between noon and 4pm to identify and describe your native baskets.  Bring as many baskets as you like.  Danna O'Connor chats with the NMA'S Amanda Horn about the event.
