Sparks Mayor On Living, Leading With Parkinson's

For years now, Sparks Mayor Geno Martini has dealt privately with Parkinson’s Disease, a chronic movement disorder that gets worse over time. He recently opened up publicly about his diagnosis, which he learned four years ago. 

Since that diagnosis, Martini's mobility has become progressively more impaired, which has required him to use a walker and rely on others for help.
 
"One thing that I have noticed since using my walker," he said, "is there are so many people who run to help you open the door, hold the door for you. I see more people do acts of kindness."
 
Martini was sworn in as mayor back in 2005 and first joined Sparks City Council in 1999. He'll continue his term as mayor, which runs until 2018.
