Artown, the month-long celebration of the arts in Reno, draws people to playhouses, movie theaters, and art galleries for a wide array of events. But, as KUNR's Michelle Bliss recently discovered, sometimes art can be found in unexpected places...like the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. She attended a performance by the Reno band the Note-Ables and has this audio postcard. The band is unique in that all of its dozen members are adults with disabilities. Since its 1999 inception, the group has grown to perform about forty local shows a year, providing catchy tunes while also redefining societal stereotypes on what it means to be disabled. KUNR is doing a series of audio postcards capturing the Sounds of Artown, including a poetry performance by the Reno-based Spoken Views Collective.
