Planned Parenthood Chief Stumps For Clinton In Reno

Julia Ritchey

Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards is stepping up her campaigning for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Our reporter Julia Ritchey talked with Richards after an event in Reno yesterday.

Planned Parenthood has just three clinics in the state of Nevada, and only one in Reno.

Richards says there's much at stake in the next election to ensure her organization can continue providing their services at these locations, including birth control, cancer screenings and abortions.

"Right here in Reno, we provide health care to a lot of folks every year, 22,000 in the state of Nevada every single year. Who the next president is of the United States is going to impact the accessibility of affordable health care at Planned Parenthood and a lot of other places."

Richards spoke to about 40 people at a roundtable yesterday [Wed] at the University of Nevada, Reno, highlighting the difficulty that many women still face in accessing affordable health care and explaining her endorsement of Clinton.

Clinton's suffered a huge defeat in New Hampshire to rival Bernie Sanders this week, partially due to waning support from women.

"I think New Hampshire was a place [that was] particularly tough for her; it was Sen. Sanders' neighboring state. He had a lot of support. Now we're onto Nevada the rest of the country."

Richards says the Vermont senator has a good voting record, but Clinton has been at the forefront of defending reproductive rights.
