Officer-Involved Shooting In North Valleys Leaves One Dead

ThisisReno.com

An attempted traffic stop on I-80 Friday afternoon led to one man being shot dead and a Washoe County Sheriff's deputy in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Our media partner ThisisReno is reporting that Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers attempted to pull over a cargo van on I-80 near the Patrick on-ramp, but the driver refused to stop.

Reno Police Department spokesman Tim Broadway says a pursuit followed into a mobile home park near Stead Boulevard and North Virginia Street.

“The one passenger exited when deputies and troopers attempted to block the vehicle in," says Broadway. "He was quickly detained and the driver attempted to flee, striking several patrol vehicles, and refused officers’ commands to stop. At one point, shots were fired, and here we are.”

A Washoe County deputy district attorney was on scene in accordance with protocol. Broadway said that more details would be released in the coming days.
