Companies in Poland are looking to expand into the U.S. market. Reno Public Radio’s Anh Gray explains how Nevada could be a gateway for more trade with Europe.
This month, Governor Brian Sandoval signed an agreement with Poland to set-up trade offices in Las Vegas and Reno.
John Petkus is spearheading the mission for the Consulate of Poland in Nevada. Speaking with our public radio partner KNPR in Las Vegas, he said the hi-tech industry in Poland wants to collaborate with companies based in the U.S.—an initiative that’s been dubbed by the Polish government as building a “Silicon Bridge.”
“There is a lot of room for collaboration in Silicon Valley, but it’s very expensive to do business in California," Petkus said. "The solution is actually just a couple of hours away in Northern Nevada."
Petkus said it would be a two-way street for Nevada businesses and trade would include other industries as well.
“We hopefully have some Nevada companies who want to expand their reach into the European Union," Petkus said. "Their landing ground would be in Poland and so we started some of those bridges, too.”
Petkus said three Polish companies have already committed to move to the Silver State. Poland plans to set up a trade office at theUniversity of Nevada, Reno's Innevation Center.
