Local Escape Room Game Attracts Clue-Solving Enthusiasts

Luiza Vieira

Some companies in Reno like Microsoft and Renown are getting pretty creative with their team building activities by sending employees to what are called escape rooms. Contributor Luiza Vieira visited the business Break Through Reno to find out what it's all about.

Imagine you're locked in a room full of secrets and the only way to escape is by finding hidden clues inside drawers, books and behind maps.

On a recent afternoon, a group of college students was trying to escape one of the rooms set up at Break Through Reno. They were racing against the clock and managed to get out with only two minutes left.

One of those players was Saygan Foyer.

"We were being rushed on the last 20, 15, 10 minutes; it felt really pumping because we didn't know if we would get done in time."

Foyer says the game provides an intellectual challenge along with a dose of adrenaline.

Kristian Kuharszky is the general manager and a graduate of University of Nevada, Reno. He says the business is not only attracting tourists. More and more companies in town are looking for innovative ways to promote team building.

"You can see a lot how people react in different situations, some pressure situations, who's leading more, how they are communicating. It's quite a lot to learn from it, and managers do like to bring in their people."

Break Through Reno has been open for less than a year now and will be launching its fourth escape room next month.
