Kim Gattuso and Bob Lumbard are part of a local group that's trying to stop a major dairy farm from opening up in Smith Valley. They say the farm poses a public health risk to them and others living nearby. Meanwhile, the operators of the farm say it is a safe and well-regulated operation that will bring jobs and new investment to the region.
For rural parts of Northern Nevada, farming has been a mainstay for generations. But in one community, a new farm has awakened fierce debate over public health, the changing face of agriculture and a region's identity. Reno Public Radio's Will Stone has this report.
