David Stipech

General Manager

David joined KUNR in 2005 and has served as general manager since 2006. He and his wife are both Reno natives who have raised their family in northern Nevada. David is a former commercial broadcaster and 1985 graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno's Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism. Over the past three decades, he has worked as a businessman and entrepreneur, primarily in training and development, marketing and public relations.

David is an avid writer and also enjoys public speaking as a means of encouraging and inspiring his audiences to pursue their passions and make a difference with their lives. His radio commentaries on the heart-and-soul issues of life and living well can be heard Monday mornings on KUNR at 5:35 and 7:35.

Sometimes it's evident, but often it may be less visible. Yet it is becoming increasingly clear that the University of Nevada, Reno is essential to and intertwined with economic development efforts and programs throughout our region and the Silver State.

On KUNR's Beyond the Headlines, President Marc Johnson discussed the university's vital and growing collaborations and initiatives aimed at boosting area economic growth and diversity. 

President Johnson discussed recent initiatives that exemplify the university’s commitment, including:

Jarl Mohn has only been on the job as NPR's president and CEO for a few weeks, but his relatable style and warm approachability are already having a local impact. 

Wearing a stylish NPR T-shirt, he visited with KUNR staff as the first stop on his cross-country small-plane tour of just a handful of small stations. Mohn spent time getting acquainted with KUNR's staff and operation, shared his ideas and priorities and had a friendly visit over lunch at the station.

Six select students of the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, recently spent an intensive week honing their public radio skills. NPR's Next Generation "Boot Camp" provides the students with an opportunity to work one-on-one with professionals from NPR and public radio stations around the country to develop multimedia content.  Students were selected through an application process.

How did you spend your summer vacation? Likely not immersed in statistics on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Unless you were one of 10 students from across the country selected to attend a newly added program promoting careers and advanced degrees in statistics. 

It's called Research for Undergraduates Summer Institute of Statistics at the University of Nevada, Reno or RUSIS@UNR.

Northern Nevada International Center promotes citizen diplomacy by connecting international visitors and local community members. Carina Black, PhD, the center's director, discusses the center's work with David Stipech on KUNR's Beyond the Headlines (7-18-14).
