Summer/Fall 2018 Internships:

Bilingual Student Reporter: 

Noticiero Móvil and Reno Public Radio (KUNR) are teaming up to offer a special opportunity for one Reynolds School of Journalism student to report stories that air on the radio in English and are produced online in both Spanish and English. The goal of this internship is to expand local coverage on the complex issue of immigration and how it’s impacting our community. This intern will research and pitch story ideas, gather audio in the field, voice and produce radio stories, and present them effectively on our website and social media outlets. This position is funded by the Reynolds School. 

Required Qualifications: Be familiar with the style and mission of NPR and KUNR programming. Be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in both English and Spanish. Be a strong writer with some broadcast experience in radio or TV. Be proficient with grammatical rules and AP style. Be able to learn quickly, overcome obstacles, and meet tight deadlines. Be hungry for news content and aware of issues and stories important in Reno. Be familiar with audio editing software (like Adobe Audition) and recording equipment. Any experience with creating multimedia journalism is a plus, including photography, videography, audiograms, and social media content.

Other details: This position runs from May 21, 2018 – August 10, 2018. The intern will work 15 hours a week for $12 an hour. KUNR Photo & Video Student Worker/Intern 

Reno Public Radio (KUNR 88.7 FM) is looking for a student worker or intern to produce photos and video projects for social media content, digital storytelling, and work to grow KUNR’s stock photography file. This position will work with the Membership and Digital Services Coordinator to plan and execute stock photo shoots in and around Reno/Tahoe, produce high-quality videos for marketing and news purposes, and work with the digital team to build out multimedia stories. This position is for a highly qualified student who excels in photography and videography.

This position will take place during the spring, summer, or fall, and hours will range from 10 to 15 per week depending on applicant availability. Applicants need access to a car for traveling to various events.

KUNR is a robust, but small, news organization, so our interns get a lot of hands-on training, mentoring, and the opportunity to make a real difference in our local coverage.

Desired Skills:

  • Be familiar with the style and mission of NPR and KUNR programming.
  • Be a strong storyteller with some media experience.
  • Have a strong proficiency with these skills: photography and videography
  • Be proficient with grammatical rules and AP style.
  • Be able to learn quickly and meet tight deadlines.
  • Be proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite including, but not limited to: Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator.
  • Be proficient with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Also, be familiar with using these platforms at an organizational level.
  • Have experience with stock photography and video projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Membership and Digital Services Coordinator to develop and execute stock photography assignments.
  • Create original content (photo and video) for social media and generate interest for our organization through those channels.
  • Work with reporters to create visual media (photo series and video projects) for existing audio stories.
  • Create visual marketing content to drive online engagement and promote the station.
  • Execute tasks assigned by Digital Services Coordinator or News Director.
  • Uphold KUNR’s best practices for social media and web posting.
  • Handle any other duties and assignments that come up as needed.

Reno Public Radio (KUNR 88.7 FM) is looking for a student worker or intern to produce social media content, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram posts, execute web posting assignments, and work to grow KUNR’s web presence and accessibility. The KUNR Web & Social Media Intern will work with the Membership and Digital Services Coordinator to plan and execute digital strategies that include website updates, analytics analysis, web posting best practices, and website optimization.

This position will take place during the spring, summer, or fall, and hours will range from 10 to 15 per week depending on applicant availability.
