The RCO’s 2017-18 season begins with pianist Tanya Bannister, winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. She made her first Reno appearance at the 2016 Nevada Chamber Music Festival, and she returns to Reno to perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Maestro Kuchar and the Orchestra. Opening the program is the famous Suite from Aaron Copland’s ballet Appalachian Spring. The second half of the concert is devoted to Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, a tribute to nature that moves from the opening movement’s “Awakening of cheerful feelings upon arrival in the countryside,” through a gentle “Scene by the brook,” a party, and a thunderstorm, to the concluding “Shepherd’s Song.” Saturday, October 7, 2017, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2017, 2:00 p.m. Nightingale Concert Hall, UNR Theodore Kuchar, Music Director and Conductor Tanya Bannister, piano PROGRAM: Copland: Appalachian Spring Suite Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 “Pastoral” Tickets: $30-$55 / Full-Time Students (with ID) $5 Season Tickets for the 2017-2018 season available.
